Outras Bandas #3 [Tágide]

The comics fanzine Outras Bandas resumes with the #3 of this anthology by the comics and illustration informal collective from Montijo – Tágide.
This issue publishes the compilation of the cadavre exquis comic story “Ossadas do Ofício/Bones of the Trade,” which was available online on the group's blog. The story, of difficult description, assumes itself as a fanciful narrative with unusual and even comical outlines, about the search by various factions for a mysterious artifact with supernatural powers.
The collective comic story “Além Lino” is also reprinted, originally from Tertúlia BDzine #187 (December 2019) and that was nominated for Best Short Comic at the 17th Central Comics Trophies. And the issue concludes with a selection of single-page comics also created in cadavre exquis, during Tágide's creative encounters between 2019 and early 2020, until the social isolation guidelines suspend the biweekly meetings.

Outras Bandas #3 includes artistic interventions with comics panels or full pages by authors António Coelho, António Pires, Daniel Maia, João Pedro Afonso, João Raz, Jorge Rodrigues, José Bandeira, Maria João Claré, Mário André, Nuno Dias, Patrícia Costa, Pedro Cruz, Rui Serra e Moura, Sérgio Santos, Shania Santos, Susana Resende and Yves Darbos.

O fanzine Outras Bandas recupera engrenagem com o #3 desta antologia do colectivo informal de BD e ilustração do Montijo, Tágide.
É publicada neste número a compilação da rúbrica em sistema cadavre exquis “Ossadas do Ofício”, disponibilizada online no blogue do grupo. A BD, de difícil discrição, assume-se como uma narrativa fantasiosa de contornos insólitos e até cómicos, sobre a busca de várias facções por um misterioso artefacto de poderes sobrenaturais.
É reeditada também a banda desenhada colectiva “Além Lino”, originalmente no Tertúlia BDzine #187 (Dezembro 2019) e que foi nomeada para Melhor Obra Curta no XVII Troféus Central Comics. E a edição é concluída com uma selecção de pranchas autoconclusivas feitas também em cadavre exquis, realizadas nos ateliers do Tágide entre 2019 e início de 2020, até as directivas de isolamento social suspenderem as reuniões quinzenais.

Outras Bandas #3 incluí intervenções gráficas com vinhetas e/ou pranchas avulsas pelos autores António Coelho, António Pires, Daniel Maia, Eduardo Martins, Filipa Lopes, João Pedro Afonso, João Raz, Jorge 'RoD!' Portuguese Heroes II | Heróis Portugueses II

The initiative Portuguese Heróis continues in stride, with over ten artists from the Tágide comics collectivity contributing to the project, which keeps its weekly updates of comics characters tributes, both in social networks and in their oficial blog, having recently reached the 50th depiction.
Although I'm not the most proactive artist contibuting, a couple of months ago I participated with a few new quick drawings. These feature Filipe Seems, created by Nuno Artur Silva (script) & António Jorge Gonçalves (art) in 1993; Baron Wrangel, a creation of author José Carlos Fernandes from 1997; and the historical figure Fernão de Magalhães, often adapted to comics by a variety of artists, thoughout the years.

A iniciativa Heróis Portugueses continua em alta, com mais de dez artistas do colectivo de banda desenhada Tágide a contribuir para o projecto, que mantém as actualizações semanais de homenagens aos personagens tanto nas redes sociais como no seu blog oficial, tendo atingido recentemente o 50ª herói. Embora não seja dos artistas mais pró-activos a contribuir, há alguns meses participei com novos desenhos rápidos: Filipe Seems, da autoria de Nuno Artur Silva (guião) e António Jorge Gonçalves (arte) em 1993; Barão Wrangel, criado por autor José Carlos Fernandes em 1997; e a figura histórica Fernão de Magalhães, diversas vezes adaptada aos quadrinhos por vários artistas, ao longo dos anos.

After sharing the catalogue of 30+1: Comics don't Quarantine, the main collective exhibition of the 31º Amadora BD comics festival, here are a few photos from the display - focusing my two pages shown there -, held in Amadora's Comics Library's gallery, at the Fernando Piteira Santos Municipal Library.

Depois de partilhar o catálogo de 30+1: A BD não faz Quarentene, a mostra colectiva central do festival 31º Amadora BD, aqui ficam algumas fotos ali patentes - focadas nas minhas duas pranchas expostas -, na galeria da Bedeteca da Amadora, na Biblioteca Municipal Fernando Piteira Santos.

Chiaroscuro Studios: Yearbook 2020

This year, Chiaroscuro Studios – the biggest international comics talent agency and co-promoters of the largest pop culture event in South America, Comic Con Experience – proposes to publish in its Yearbook a comic adaptation of the Declaration Universal Human Rights (UDHR). As always, the Yearbook is illustrated by over 60 talents represented by the agency, that create 50 double-pages, each dedicated to an article in the declaration, which will be bilingual (Portuguese and English).

The project, coordinated by Ivan Freitas da Costa and Joe Prado, owner-partners of Chiaroscuro Studios, closed its pre-sale phase at Catarse on October 19, again reaching its initial goal on the first day of the campaign and accumulated financing higher than 300% of the original value! Additionally, the profit obtained in the campaign will revert to several social projects in Brazil, between institutions and OGNs, which include the profits from the sale of the original arts created for the book.

This is yet another project to which I am proud to contribute, where I drew the UDHR's Article 13. The Yearbook vol.5 will be released in December, with a presentation at the virtual event CCXP World, which this year will be held in digital format, due to the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Este ano, a Chiaroscuro Studios – a maior agência internacional de talentos de comics e co-responsável pelo maior evento de cultura pop da América do Sul, o Comic Con Experience (CCXP) – propõe editar no seu anuário uma adaptação para banda desenhada da Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos (DUDH). Como sempre, o Yearbook é ilustrado pelos mais de 60 talentos representados pela agência, que ali criaram 50 pranchas duplas, cada qual dedicada a um dos artigos da declaração, que terão legendagem bilingue (Português e Inglês).
O projecto, coordenado por Ivan Freitas da Costa e Joe Prado, sócios-proprietários da Chiaroscuro Studios, encerrou a fase de pré-venda na plataforma Catarse a 19 de Outubro, mais uma vez tendo atingido a meta inicial no primeiro dia da campanha e acumulado um financiamento superior a 300% do valor inicial! Adicionalmente, o lucro obtido na campanha irá reverter para diversos projectos de apoio social no Brasil, entre instituições e ONGs, onde se inclui os ganhos da venda das artes originais criadas para a obra.
Este é mais outro projecto para o qual tenho orgulho de contribuir, no qual assinei o Artigo 13º da DUDH. O Yearbook vol.5 será disponibilizado em Dezembro, tendo apresentação formal no evento virtual CCXP World, que este ano será realizado em formato digital, devido às condicionantes devidas à pandemia Covid-19.

Catalogue 30+1 | Catálogo 30+1 [Amadora BD]

The Amadora BD comics festival made available today the collective exhibition 30+1: BD não faz Quarentena / 30+1: Comics don't Quarentene catalog, held in the Bedeteca da Amadora, located at Fernando Piteira Santos public library (Amadora).
30+1 is the event's central exhibition, which this year is naturally focused on the scourge of the global pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus, that marked 2020 and continues to affect various segments of the comics market (and others), from the authors to the publishers, and booksellers. An historic moment, unprecedented for humanity, that this exhibition aims to preserve through the creative eye of thirty Portuguese talents, artists and writers, observing both the productivity regarding professional works that the authors maintained during the start of the pandemic, as well as other projects propitiated by the phenomenon.

My two black/white sequential pages reproduced in the catalog were created with the writers Marco Calhorda and Marco Fraga da Silva. With the first, I present a page from the graphic novel CoBrA: Operation Goa (unpublished), produced in the beginning of the year during the start of the world pandemic; and with the second I reveal the self-conclusive comic page “Quim & Manecas defeat Covid-19”, which is part of Virar a Página (released soon), a project coordinated by André Morgado (Bicho Carpinteiro) that raised funds to support the victims of the new Corona virus.

O festival Amadora BD disponibilizou hoje o catálogo da exposição colectiva 30+1: A BD não faz Quarentena, patente na Bedeteca da Amadora, situada na biblioteca municipal Fernando Piteira Santos, na Amadora.
30+1 é a mostra central do evento, este ano naturalmente focada no flagelo da pandemia mundial causada pelo vírus Covid-19, que marcou 2020 e continua a afectar diversos segmentos do mercado de banda desenhada (e outros), desde autores a editores, e livreiros. Um momento histórico, sem precedentes para a humanidade, que esta exposição pretende revelar pelo olhar criativo de trinta talentos portugueses, entre artistas e escritos, observando tanto a produtividade profissional que os autores perseveraram em lograr durante o começo da pandemia, como outros trabalhos que tenham sido propiciados pelo fenómeno.

As minhas duas pranchas de BD a preto/branco reproduzidas no catálogo foram criadas em parceria com os argumentistas Marco Calhorda e Marco Fraga da Silva. Com o primeiro, apresento uma página do álbum CoBrA: Operação Goa (a publicar), produzida no início do ano durante o começo da pandemia mundial; e com o segundo revelo a prancha da BD auto-conclusiva “Quim & Manecas dão cabo do Covid-19”, que integra o projecto Virar a Página (disponível em breve), coordenado por André Morgado (Bicho Carpinteiro) para angaria fundos de apoio às vítimas do Corona vírus.
