The sketches of this fictional Jorge Jardim, the protagonist of CoBrA: Op. Goa, were drawn in several autograph sessions, from the end of 2022 to the start of the present year. My thanks to the readers, for their appreciation and support for the book!

4º Prémio Bandas Desenhadas – Last nomination / Última nomeação

The 4th Bandas Desenhadas Awards, promoted by BandasDesenhadas.com, has announced its Extemporaneous round of nominations, for the distinctions for authors and works published in 2022. In this final stage, the Tágide collective, that I also partake in, was indicated in Best Anthology, for Outras Bandas #8, and my short comic published there, “Tuesday”, was nominated for Best Short Comic; the story was written by Travis Johnson and Liliana Johnson, drawn and lettered by me, with grey-tones by Susana Resende, and was originally released in the anthology A Matter of Right.

The winners are revealed at the 17th FIBDB. In this 4th PBD, I am also nominated for CoBrA: Operation Goa, with Marco Calhorda (script), in Best Illustration for Portuguese Comic, and H-Alt #12, with several authors, in Best Anthology.

O 4º Prémio Bandas Desenhadas, realizado por BandasDesenhadas.com, anunciou a ronda de nomeações Extemporâneas, para as distinções aos autores e obras publicadas em 2022. Nesta fase final, o colectivo Tágide, que integro, foi indicado na categoria Melhor Antologia, por Outras Bandas #8, e a minha BD ali publicada, “Terça-feira,” foi nomeada para Melhor BD Curta; a história foi escrita por Travis Johnson e Liliana Johnson, desenhada e balonada por mim, com meios-tons de Susana Resende, tendo sido originalmente editada na antologia A Matter of Right.
Os vencedores são revelados no 17º FIBDB. Neste 4º PBD, estou também nomeado pelas obras CoBrA: Operação Goa, com Marco Calhorda (arg.), em Melhor Ilustração em Obra Portuguesa, e H-Alt #12, com vários autores, em Melhor Antologia.

FC Porto: Comics – February / BD – Fevereiro

The FCP-BD: 2022/2023 continues in February with two new advertising campaigns for home matches, and these two latest sequences were focused on the female cheerleading fans, also featuring the House of Music and the spanish striker Toni Martínez, and the veteran die-hard fans, that have been supporting the team since their childhood, in the background of the famouse Constitution Field, where the club has its roots and where its long history began.
The sequences were writen and drawn by me, with digital colors by Susana Resende.

O FCP-BD: 2022/2023 prossegue em Fevereiro com duas novas campanhas publicitárias para jogos em casa, sendo que estas duas últimas sequências foram focadas nas claques femininas, destacando ainda a Casa da Música e o avançado espanhol Toni Martínez, e os fervorosos adeptos veteranos, que torcem pelas equipas desde infância, figurando como pano de fundo o famoso Campo da Constituição, onde o clube tem as suas raízes e onde a sua longa história começou.
As sequências foram escritas e desenhadas por mim, e têm cores digitais da Susana Resende.

Blast from the Past: The Authority

Earlier this month, the new DCU direction announced the first adaptation to screen of The Authority, one the most popular superteam comics of the millennium and, without a doubt, the title that ushered in a new age for comic-books, with a focus of smart, quick-paced story, with charismatic and controversial characters doing over-the-top, outrageous action. The book, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, and later Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, outdid itself in every issue and left a mark in the medium, not only by the stories it told but through the crafting of telling them. I’m very excited to see them in a movie!

Around this time 19 years ago, a very young me had the opportunity to showcase artwork to draw the 2rd volume of the book, for which I drew this try-out illustration and a sequential sample (that I don’t have anymore). Thankfully, I didn’t get the gig, because I was too inexperienced to handle it; however, I still get a kick out of these characters – Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, The Doctor, The Engineer, and of course Apollo & The Midnighter, the main duo within the team, plus baby Jenny Quantum.

No início deste mês, a nova direcção do DCU anunciou a primeira adaptação para a grande tela de Authority, uma das BDs de super-heróis mais populares do milênio e, sem dúvida, o título que abriu uma nova era para os comics, com foco em história inteligente e rápida, personagens carismáticos e controversos, em acções exageradas e ultrajantes. O livro, criado por Warren Ellis e Bryan Hitch, e mais tarde Mark Millar e Frank Quitely, superou-se em todos os números e deixou uma marca no sector, não apenas pelas histórias que contou, mas na elaboração delas. Estou muito entusiasmado para vê-los em filme!
Por esta altura, há 19 anos, um eu muito jovem teve a oportunidade de mostrar trabalhos para desenhar o 2º volume da BD, para o qual desenhei esta ilustração experimental e uma amostra sequencial (que já não tenho). Felizmente, não consegui o contrato, porque era demasiado inexperiente para assumir o desafio; no entanto, ainda me animo com estas personagens – Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, The Doctor, The Engineer e, claro, Apollo & The Midnighter, a dupla principal da equipe, além da bebê Jenny Quantum.

For the first batch of sketches of the year, here are a few preliminary studies and initial attempts at the Metabaron vs Flash Gordon illustration. I began by trying to picture them in mid fight, instead of a more traditional face-off.
