Time for
considerations regarding CCPT: First off, a big THANK YOU to CITY team, their sponsors and partners,
for betting on this sector and for promoting an event as seminal and successful
as Comic-Con Portugal was, and also
for their availability and support .
As a
newbie in these things, I didn’t expect and was surprised by such a strong turn-up
and general interest from the public. A huge THANK YOU to all visitors and fans
who visited me and inker colleague Daniel
Henriques; the interaction was fantastic and we were grateful for the expressive
enthusiasm about our artwork and the transactions we made. We left Oporto exhausted
– with a total of 10h sleeped in 3 days – but also extremely motivated to
progress in our Comics career and hopeful for the viability of this sector in a
country where the specialized market was, until very recently, quite
insufficient to sustain itself.
I should
say, as an author and independent editor, that many projects published over
here are mostly made with little to no profit expectations. Although the CCPT
is not "the" salvation of the comics field, it’s a big step in the
right direction, and it is now up to the creators to optimize their productions
to validate this huge door that now opens.
At the
same time, it was amazing to be with so many talented people and get to know
(finally!) the awesome brother-in-arms like Manuel Morgado, Filipe Homem
Fonseca, Luis Figueiredo, Nuno Sousa Pereira, André Azevedo, Nuno Rodrigues, amongst others, and hang out with friends and
colleagues. If I failed to greet anyone, then sorry, but I only got to sit down
at the end of the last day and only got to check-out the show for about 30'--!
Despite
having experienced very little of what the other spaces had to offer, I could
buy (and get signed) the independent graphic novel Obscurum Nocturnum, by Diogo
Carvalho, and take home an original Hellboy, by Joana Afonso. Not everything was lost :)
Needless
to say, I’m already looking forward to the 2nd CCPT, which will be even bigger
and more appealing. And in what concerns me, I’ll again try to do what’s (im)possible
to contribute to this thunderous celebration of Comics an Pop culture.

success, in São Paulo – which is where I would have been, if not for the
invitation to join the CCPT – promoted by the talented and tireless Ivan Freitas da Costa and Joe Prado (from Chiaroscuro Studios),
in partnership with Omelette portal.
What can I say? Better than a great Comic-Con, only TWO both excellent 'Cons!
Hora de rescaldo à CCPT: Antes de mais, um MUITO
OBRIGADO à equipa da CITY, patrocinadores
e parceiros, por apostarem no sector e promoverem um evento tão seminal e bem-sucedido
como foi o Comic-Con Portugal, e
também pelas disponibilidades e apoio.
Como estreante nestas lides, não esperava e fui surpreendido
pela forte adesão, e geral interesse sentido da parte do público. Um enorme
OBRIGADO aos visitantes e fãs que me visitaram e ao arte-finalista Daniel Henriques; a interacção foi fantástica
e ficamos agradecidos pelo expressivo entusiasmo face aos nossos trabalhos e pelas
transacções realizadas. Saímos do Porto exaustos – com um total de 10h dormidas
em 3 dias –, mas extremamente motivados a progredir no percurso profissional em
Comics e esperançosos pela viabilidade deste sector num país onde o mercado especializado
era, até recentemente, bastante insuficiente.
Importa dizer, enquanto autor e editor independente, que
muitos dos projectos que cá se editassem eram, na maioria, feitos a fundo
perdido. Ainda que a CCPT não seja “a” salvação do ramo, é um grande passo na
direcção certa, cabendo agora aos criadores saber optimizar as produções para
validar esta ampla porta que se abre.
Paralelamente, foi incrível estar com tanta gente
talentosa e conhecer (por fim!) os impecáveis companheiros de armas Manuel Morgado, Filipe Homem Fonseca, Luís
Figueiredo, Nuno Pereira Sousa, André Azevedo, Nuno Rodrigues, entre outros, e estar com amigos e colegas da área.
Se houve quem falhei em cumprimentar, que desculpem, mas só me consegui sentar
no final do último dia e só pude circular no evento uns 30´--!
Apesar de ter experienciado pouco do que os outros
espaços ofereciam, pude comprar (e ter assinado) o álbum independente Obscurum Nocturnum, de Diogo Carvalho, e levar para casa um
Hellboy original, pela Joana Afonso.
Nem tudo ficou perdido:)Escusado será dizer que fico a ansiar pelo 2º CCPT,
que irá ser ainda maior e mais apelativo. E da minha parte, voltarei a fazer o
(im)possível para contribuir para esta estrondosa celebração da Banda Desenhada
e demais cultura pop.
Ainda: parabéns também ao fulminante sucesso do CCXP, em São Paulo – onde teria estado
presente, não fosse o convite a integrar o CCPT – promovido pelos talentosos e
incansáveis Ivan Freitas da Costa e Joe Prado (da Chiaroscuro Studios), em
parceria com o portal Omelete. Que
dizer? Melhor que uma excelente Comic-Con, só mesmo DUAS excelentes ‘Cons!
