This
newest commission is something of a novelty. Exactly ten years ago,
while illustrating the book The Infante Portugal and The Mutant Shadows (Apenas Livros), by José de Matos-Cruz, I collaborated with
my partner, artist Susana Resende in a few images that had an
ethereal context. This gimmick meant that we worked together on those
chapter illustrations, as seen in this drawing featuring the
character Álvaro Pessoa, that in this fictional universe is a
pastiche of the famous portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.
The
original illustration was created digitally, melding together my
drawing and Susana’s, but for this recreation – the 1st time I
did such a work – we worked on the same 11x17 artboard. I hope we
have both evolved a bit since 2012...
Esta
recente comissão é algo de diferente. Há exatamente dez anos, ao
ilustrar O Infante Portugal e As Sombras Mutantes (Apenas Livros),
por José de Matos-Cruz, colaborei com a minha parceira, a artista
Susana Resende, em algumas imagens de contexto etéreo. Este
estratagema levou-nos a trabalhar juntos nas ilustrações dessas
capas de capítulos, como se vê neste desenho com a personagem
Álvaro Pessoa, que neste universo ficcional é um pastiche do famoso
poeta português Fernando Pessoa.
A ilustração
original foi criada digitalmente, juntando o meu desenho ao da
Susana, mas para esta recriação – a primeira vez que fiz um tal
trabalho – trabalhámos na mesma prancha A3. Espero que ambos
tenhamos evoluído um pouco desde 2012…
