OverPower – World of Legends: More illustrations / Outras ilustrações

After spotlighting the release of the first deck of collectible cards that mark the return of the popular brand OverPower – which was a huge success in Kickstarter, acchieving funding within ten minutes –, here’s a couple more artworks that I created for the project. 
These were tied to the Invisible Man’s lore.You can also checkout my sketches and main illustrations, spotlighted back when the company featured them online.

Now that OverPower: World of Legends collectible card game has been released, I wanted to round out the spotlight of my main illustrations for the project with this Allan Quartermain card, which was the 2nd card I drew, back in 2024.
The hero of H. Rider Haggard’s 1885 novel King Solomon’s Mines, Allan Quartermain is the archetipe for the wilderness adventurer and was adapted to every entertainment medium there is, portraid by ten actors in film. And most famous in comics by his addition to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Here, we see him tracking mythical hero Hercules, and given the dimensions of the card it was difficult to fit the character and the Hercules insert in a way that both would be noticible. This is probably the card the I liked the most.

Agora que o jogo de cartas colecionáveis OverPower: World of Legends foi lançado, completo os destaques das minhas principais ilustrações para o projeto com esta carta com Allan Quartermain, que foi a segunda que desenhei, em 2024.
O herói do romance de H. Rider Haggard, As Minas do Rei Salomão, de 1885, Allan Quartermain é o arquétipo do caçador aventureiro e adaptado a todos os meios de entretenimento existentes, retratado por dez actores no cinema. É famoso também na banda desenhada pela sua entrada n’A Liga de Cavalheiros Extraordinários.

Aqui, vemo-lo a perseguir o herói mítico Hércules, e dadas as dimensões da carta foi difícil encaixar a personagem e a vinheta com Hércules de forma a que ambos fossem perceptíveis. Esta é, provavelmente, a carta de que mais gostei.

OverPower – World of Legends [BMG]

Available for a few months now, BMG & Associates has released a new collectible card game from the popular OverPower brand, titled World of Legends. This Starter Deck introduces characters from literature and beyond to the OverPower universe and proved a huge success from the start, being fully funded via Kickstarter within the first ten minutes of the campaign.
OverPower – World of Legends puts the player in control by allowing them to choose their favorite heroes and villains and build their deck based on those character«s special abilities. When battling opponents in competitions, the player can win by directly eliminating the opponent, by completing his mission or by preventing the opponent from completing theirs. OverPower has already retaken the RPG industry by storm and, more recently, has been expanded with other Booster Boxes featuring new characters from comic book publishers such as SkyBound and Top Cow.

This was my first experience contributing to the RPG world, having illustrated about ten cards. Additionally, some of the images I created have been used in companion items. See some of the illustrations here.

Disponível há alguns meses, a empresa BMG & Associates lançou o novo jogo de cartas coleccionáveis da popular marca OverPower, intitulado World of Legends. Este Starter Deck introduz no universo OverPower personagens da literatura e não só, e revelou-se um enorme sucesso desde o início, sendo totalmente financiado via Kickstarter nos primeiros dez minutos da campanha.
OverPower – World of Legends coloca o jogador no controlo ao permitir-lhe escolher os seus heróis e vilões favoritos e construir o seu baralho com base nas habilidades especiais destes. Ao combater com adversários em competição, o jogador pode vencer ao eliminar o adversário directamente, ao completar a sua missão ou impedindo o oponente de completar a sua. OverPower – World of Legends já reconquistou a indústria de RPG e, mais recentemente, foi expandido com outros Booster Boxes figurando novas personagens de editoras de comics como SkyBound ou Top Cow.

Esta foi a minha primeira experiência a contribuir para o mundo de RPG, tendo ilustrado cerca de dez cartas e, adicionalmente, certas imagens que criei foram utilizadas em artigos complementares. Ver aqui algumas das ilustrações.

Yet another of my artwork contributions for the upcoming revival of the OverPower collectible card game has been spotlighted online, thus allowing me to showcase the piece. This drawing was actually the first I did for the project, back in 2024.
In this one, the hero is none other than Joan of Arc, here featured at her most ethereal and unscathed in the midst of battle.

Mais uma das minhas contribuições artísticas para o vindouro lançamento do jogo de cartas colecionáveis OverPower foi divulgada online, o que me permitiu partilhar a imagem. Este desenho foi na realidade o primeiro que fiz para o projeto, ainda em 2024.
Aqui, a heroína é nada mais nada menos que Joana d'Arc, aqui retratada no seu estado mais etéreo e ilesa no meio da batalha.

OverPower: World of Legends – Cards

Earlier in the year, I spotlighted my contribution to the new OverPower card game, titled World Legends. This revival of the beloved 90’s tabletop card game is already a huge success, getting fully funded at Kickstarter within ten minutes. Regarding my illustrations, a few of the characters I drew have been showcased in the promotions and even used to illustrate additional items that fans can purchase. Here are those finalized cards, featuring Alan Quartermain, The Invisible Man, Billy the Kid, and a teamwork card with the Queen of Hearts, Headless Horseman and Sweeney Todd.

Há uns meses fiz destaque à minha contribuição para o novo jogo de cartas OverPower, intitulado World Legends. Este ressurgimento do aclamado jogo de cartas colecionável dos anos 90 já é um grande sucesso, tendo sido totalmente financiado no Kickstarter em apenas dez minutos. Following the previous two illustrations that were showcased here from the new OverPower card game, today I’m sharing another artwork, now featuring H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man. This is another Hero Card and we see the scientist Jack Griffin escaping the police, while discarding his bandages and clothing in order to become truly invisible to his pursuers.
I also drew another two images dedicated to Invisible Man, two Special Cards that show him in combat.

Após as duas ilustrações anteriores que aqui apresentei do novo jogo de cartas OverPower, hoje partilho outro trabalho, agora com O Homem Invisível, de H.G. Wells. Esta é mais uma Hero Card e vemos o cientista Jack Griffin a fugir da polícia, descartando as suas ligaduras e roupas para se tornar verdadeiramente invisível aos seus perseguidores.

A 2nd image of mine for OverPower: World of Legends has been shared, affording me the opportunity to further showcase the artwork. This time, it’s a teamwork card featuring a trio of macabre characters, with Queen of Hearts, Headless Horseman & Sweeney Todd. I though this team-up was genius; we can easily see these three finding something in common in each other.
Again, a basic orientation for the artwork had been given leaving me to find a way to present it. I originally tried to have them in a surreal setting, with clowdy skies behind and floor with chessboard themes, but given we already had an overcrowded card I had to just focus on the figures themselves.

The card game returns after twenty years with a new deck very soon, through a Kickstart campaign that begins on October 15th.

Uma segunda imagem minha para OverPower: World of Legends foi partilhada, dando-me a oportunidade de mostrar mais esta arte. Desta vez, é uma carta de equipa com um trio de personagens macabras, a Rainha de Copas, o Cavaleiro Sem Cabeça e Sweeney Todd. Achei esta equipa genial; podemos facilmente ver estes três a encontrarem algo em comum um nos outros.
Novamente, foi-me dada uma orientação básica para a obra cabendo-me encontrar uma forma de a apresentar. Originalmente, tentei pô-los num cenário surreal, com um céu turvo atrás e um chão com temas de tabuleiro de xadrez, mas como já tínhamos a carta sobrelotada tive de me focar apenas nas próprias figuras.

O jogo de cartas regressa em breve após vinte anos com um novo baralho, através de uma campanha Kickstarter que começa no dia 15 de outubro.

The OverPower: World of Legends has begun gearing up for the revival of this popular collectible card game, which launches on October 15th, at Kickstarter. Among the first illustrations showcased by the company’s social media is one of mine, featuring Billy the Kid's Power Card.

Given that card has been shared, here’s its artwork progression. The essence of the image had been given by the team, so I just had to find a composition to make it work and sketched two options. The first showed a classic non-descript cowboy and the second embrassed Billy’s youth and wickedness, getting more historically specific with his hat and scarf, and general atire.
Although the cards are small and include information graphics, OverPower holds a huge legacy regarding artwork quality, so I elected to hand draw this in A4 format, to get a good amount of detail in the image.

The OverPower: World of Legends começou a preparar-se para o ressurgimento deste popular jogo de cartas colecionável que vai ser lançado a 15 de Outubro, no Kickstarter. Entre as primeiras ilustrações divulgadas nas redes sociais da empresa está uma minha, com o Power Card de Billy the Kid.

Dado que a carta foi partilhada, aqui está a produção da arte. A essência da imagem foi indicada pela equipa, pelo que só tive de encontrar uma composição que funcionasse e esboçar duas opções. A primeira mostrava um cowboy clássico e a segunda sublinhava mais a juventude e malícia de Billy, sendo historicamente mais específico com o seu chapéu e cachecol, e os trajes em geral.
Embora as cartas sejam pequenas e incluam gráficos informativos, o OverPower guarda um enorme legado em relação à qualidade da arte, pelo que optei por desenhar à mão em formato A4, para atingir uma boa quantidade de detalhes na imagem.

The news don’t stop!... I now announce the return of OverPower, one of the most famous and successful collectible card games in the North American industry, which makes a comeback after over twenty years, when it was popularized by the partnership with Marvel Comics and brought those superheroes to the RPG field.
The game returns with OverPower – World of Legends, which adds dozens of iconic heroes from classic literature and mythology to the known cards, thus expanding existing decks, as well as updating rules and game mechanics, while keeping 100% compatibility with the original cards.
The campaign launches via Kickstarter on October 15, 2024!

For my part, I was pleased to be invited to contribute several illustrations. And since one of them was part of the initial announcement, I take the opportunity to share here my interpretation of Billy the Kid in his Power Card.
