The
9th Coimbra BD comics festival was always going to be an
opportunity to doodle some characters for the fans, during the book
signings. And I did a fair share of them. However, I wasn’t quite
prepared for the additional challenge presented by the paper company
Prado, that invited all the professional and amateur artists
at the event to fill the two wide boards displayed at the alter of
the converted church.
After my suggestion, the theme for these drawing performances was the celebration of one of comics most definitive year – 1986, the “dawn of the Modern Age”, which saw the release of seminal works such as Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons’ The Watchmen, Art Spiegelman’s Maus, Tiziano Sclavi’s Dylan Dog, plus the reboot of Superman, by John Byrne, and many others.
I got the ball rolling with a big sketch of Batman and fortunatelly a lot of talents took part in the initiative.

9º festival Coimbra BD já era uma oportunidade para
desenhar algumas personagens para os fãs durante as sessões de
autógrafos. E fiz vários deles. No entanto, não estava preparado
para o desafio adicional proposto pela empresa de papel Prado,
que convidou todos os artistas presentes no evento, profissionais e
amadores, a preencherem as duas grandes telas expostas no altar da
igreja convertida.
Seguindo a minha sugestão, o tema destas performances de desenho foi a celebração de um dos anos mais marcantes da banda desenhada – 1986, o “início da Era Moderna”, que viu o lançamento de obras seminais como Batman: O Regresso do Cavaleiro das Trevas, de Frank Miller; Watchmen, de Alan Moore e Dave Gibbons; Maus, de Art Spiegelman; Dylan Dog, de Tiziano Sclavi; bem como o reboot do Super-Homem por John Byrne, e muitas outras.
Abri o baile um esboço grande do Batman e, felizmente, muitos mais talentos participaram na iniciativa.
