For my part, I was present at the Galaxy
XXI – The Future of Comics is Now collective exhibit, alongside colleague
Filipe Andrade (although there are plenty more colleagues with work at overseas
markets that could also be present there), and also participated in the Autographs
Session on the first weekend, that dragged for double the expected
time of 2h, because I didn’t want anyone to be “left out,” which is always a
positive and stimulating experience. Thanks, everyone who came by, and especially
to those who bought my books!
A
Another of Amadora BD bonus' was,
undoubtedly, meeting one of my favorite authors, Tom Grindberg, who drew the first original comic I ever bought, Daredevil #333 (1994), which I had the
opportunity to ask him to autograph. Tom, aside from working at DC and Marvel –
more notably, in Batman and Superman, or Silver Surfer, Daredevil and Conan – is the official artist of Tarzan and is preparing other projects associated with the world of
Frank Frazetta.
Despite having fewer opportunities to
be with him than expected, for reasons that surpassed me, it was immensely
rewarding to chill out with one of my idols, not only talented, humble and friendly,
but also generous in his time and advices. In addition to having work displayed
in the exhibits "Batman – 75 Years" and "Silver Surfer",
Tom also starred in one of the festival’s most amusing moments, but that’s a
story for another time...
