V CCPT – Autographed sketches / Esboços autografados

Na sequência do rescaldo sobre a Comic Con Portugal, partilho alguns desenhos de convenção que fiz no Beco dos Artistas.

O contacto com os visitantes foi um sucesso, não me dando oportunidade de experiênciar o evento fora da tenda do Artists' Alley. E não sei quem se divertiu mais: se os visitantes, a folhearem os nossos trabalhos e trocando dois dedos de conversa, ou nós, os artistas, ao disfrutarmos das companhias e dos desfiles de Cosplayers!...

Following the aftermath about Comic Con Portugal, here are some of the convention drawings I did while at the Artists' Alley.

The contact with the visitors was a success, not allowing me to checkout the event outside the Alley's tent, given the huge influx we had there. And I'm unsure who had the most fun: if the fans, browsing through our artwork and chatting for a bit, or ourselves, the artists, by enjoying their company and the awesome parede of Cosplayers!...

V CCPT - Aftermath / Rescaldo

O Comic Con Portugal terminou há uma semana e confirma-se o estrondoso sucesso da aposta dos organizadores C.I.T.Y. em transferir o evento para a zona de Lisboa, no Passeio Marítimo de Álges, onde a convenção terá espaço para crescer nos anos vindouros. Embora decorrida numa semana complicada, entre o final do verão e arranque do ano lectivo, o CCPT registou um ligeiro crescimento, com 109 mil visitantes, num local completamente novo e ao alcance de um público estreante.

Embora haja aspectos a corrigir, o concenso que recebi dos visitantes foi largamente positivo, e tal denotou-se bem nas boas vibrações sentidas pelo recinto, com um público muito variado em preferências (i.e. comics, gaming, cosplay, etc) e idades, pelo que espero haver motivos para regozijo por parte da comunidade de banda desenhada portuguesa nos próximos anos.

Pela minha parte, acompanhado pelos colegas Daniel Henriques e Susana Resende, regressei ao Artists' Alley este ano e tive uma experiência fantástica, não só por estar no meio de colegas talentosos e de velhos amigos, e inclusive por privar com os mentores da agência Chiaroscuro Studios – o desenhador Eddy Barrows e arte-finalista Joe Prado – mas também por receber a estima e entusiasmo do público. Foram quatro dias extenuantes que valeram bem a pena!

Um enorme obrigado a todos os que visitaram a minha mesa, e agradeço, novamente, a organização da CCPT pelo convite para que marcasse presença no evento e pelo seu apoio. Continuem a ler BD e vemo-nos no próximo Comic Con Portugal!

Comic Con Portugal ended a week ago and the resounding success of the bet by the organizers C.I.T.Y. is confirmed, in transferring the event to the Lisbon area, on the Passeio Marítimo de Álges, where the convention will now have room to grow in the coming years. Although it took place in a difficult week, between summer's end and the start of the school year, CCPT managed a slight glowth, with 109,000 visitors, in a completely new location and for a mainly newcomer audience.

Although there are aspects to be corrected, the consensus I got from the visitors was largely positive, and this was signified in the good vibes felt at the venue, with a very varied audience in terms of preferences (ie comics, gaming, cosplaying, etc) and age range, which leads me to think that the Portuguese comics community will have reasons to rejoice in the next years.
 

For my part, accompanied by colleagues Daniel Henriques and Susana Resende, I returned to the Artists' Alley this year and had a fantastic experience, not only because I was in the midst of talented colleagues and old friends, and even for meeting up with my Chiaroscuro Studios agency mentors – the penciler Eddy Barrows and the inker Joe Prado – but also for receiving the appreciation and enthusiasm from the public. It was four exhausting days that were well worth it!

V Comic Con Portugal

Na sua 5ª edição, a Comic Con Portugal (CCPT) – o mais bem-sucedido evento de cultura pop no país, com 100 mil visitantes em 2017 – muda-se para arredores de Lisboa, tendo lugar no Passeio Marítimo de Algés, após a entidade organizadora C.I.T.Y. criar parceria com o município de Oeiras. Decorrendo de 6 a 9 de Setembro, a convenção expande-se em dimensão e em ofertas, desde artistas de BD (i.e. Mauricio de Sousa, Chris Claremont, Mark Waid, Yves Sente, Joe Prado, Eddy Barrows, Filipe Melo, David Rubín, entre outros) a actores (i.e. Dolph Lundgren, Dan Fogler, Nicholas Hoult, entre outros).

A convite da CCPT, vou regressar ao evento ao estar presente no Beco dos Artistas com várias edições, mais artes originais e impressões à venda; se passarem pelo evento, visitem-me na mesa. Para mais informação sobre o CCPT, vistem o site oficial.

In its 5th edition, Comic Con Portugal (CCPT) – the country's most successful pop culture event, with 100 thousand visitors in 2017 – is moving to Lisbon's outskirts, being held at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, after promoters C.I.T.Y. striking a partnership with the Oeiras municipality. Taking place between September's 6 and 9, the convention expands in size and offerings, from comics artists (i.e. Mauricio de Sousa, Chris Claremont, Mark Waid, Yves Sente, Joe Prado, Eddy Barrows, Filipe Melo, David Rubín, amonst others) and actors (i.e. Dolph Lundgren, Dan Fogler, Nicholas Hoult, amongst others).

At the invitation of CCPT, I will be returning to the show to be present at the Artist Alley with various editions, plus original artwork and high-quality prints; if you drop by, visit me at my table. For further information on CCPT, check the oficial site.

Barreiro Ilustra BD

A decorrer no Auditório Municipal Augusto Cabrita (AMAC), de 1 de Setembro a 14 de Outubro, o evento Barreiro Ilustra BD surge da parceria entre o autor João Raz, administrador do blog/grupo de facebook Desenhos, Inks & Rabiscos, e a Câmara Municipal de Barreiro, com vista a proporcionar aos fãs e curiosos por estas formas de arte – a banda desenhada e ilustração – um contacto privilegiado com artistas nacionais. Na primeira edição deste novo evento português, os visitantes vão ter acesso a uma selecção de obras recentes pelos autores convidados, num ambiente descontraído, simpático e, acima de tudo, familiar, onde cada artista apresentará a sua expressão gráfica, numa mostra repleta de diversidade.

No dia 22 de Setembro, entre as 16h e 22h, o AMAC acolhe um encontro com os autores, pautado por colóquios, autógrafos, sessões de desenho ao vivo, e área para venda de edições e merchandize.

Participam neste salão os artistas: Ana Pais, Artur Filipe, Carlos Rocha, Catarina Teixeira, Daniel da Silva Lopes, Daniel Maia, Derradé, Diana Marques, Dina Barbosa, Diogo Carvalho, Diogo Mané, Eliseu “Zeu” Gouveia, Filipe Duarte, Henrique & Duarte Gandum, Inocência Dias, João “Jhohn” Amaral, João Gordinho, João Raz, Luís Belerique, Mariana Flores, Miguel Falcato, Miguel Mendonça, Nuno Saraiva, Osvaldo Medina, Patrik Caetano, Paulo Monteiro, Paulo Montes, Pedro Brito, Pedro Potier, Fernando “Phermad” Madeira, Quico Nogueira, Rui Ramos, Samuel Santos, Sérgio Santos, Sofia Neto, Susana Resende e Tânia Cardoso. Para além da exposição destes 38 autores, haverá ainda uma homenagem póstuma ao autor norte-americano Bernie Wrightson, figura incontornável da BD mundial, ilustrador de Swamp Thing, Batman, House of Mystery, Frankenstein, entre outros.

At the Augusto Cabrita Municipal Auditorium (AMAC), from September 1st to October 14th, the event Barreiro Ilustra BD comes from a partnership between author João Raz, administrator of the blog/facebook group Desenhos, Inks & Rabiscos, and Barreiro Municipality, in order to provide fans and people curious about these art forms – comics and illustration – a privileged contact with portuguese artists. In the first edition of this new event, visitors will have access to a selection of recent works by the 38 guest authors, plus a postumus exhibit with Bernie Wrightson's artwork, in a relaxed, friendly and, above all, familiar environment, where each artist will present his graphic expression in a show full of diversity.

On September 22nd, from 4pm to 10pm, the AMAC hosts a meeting with the authors, filled with panels, autographs, live drawing sessions, and Artist Alley.
