While I’m preparing more detailed stuff, here are more recent sketches – both for warm-up and cool down, very quick and loose.Enquanto prepare coisas mais detalhadas, eis mais esboços recentes – tanto para aquecimento como relaxamento, muito rápidos e soltos.

Following last week’s Avengers sequential samples, I’ve drawn a few super-heroes for commissions purposes, to try out the field to soon open up a commercial schedule. Here are the latest:Thor, Shazam and The Infante Portugal.
Na sequência da amostra com Vingadores, na semana passada, desenhei uns super-heróis para propósitos de comissões, para testar o terreno com vista a abrir uma agenda comercial. Eis os mais recentes: Thor, Shazam e O Infante Portugal.

Comic The Avengers – Marvel Now

Time to get serious. This new portfolio sample is overdue and was the challenge I needed to kick-start the new year. This time, I opted to adapt an official script, from Marvel Adventures: The Avengers (vol.1) #14, by Jeff Parker (penciled by Leonard Kirk), but swapped the characters for their Marvel Now counterparts: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Spiderman and Captain Marvel.

The story is akin to a typical A-Team (pun intended) episode, with the Avengers having to fight off an invading horde of barbarians and giants, with the settlers joining in at the end. Enjoy!

Agora é a sério. Esta nova amostra para portfolio já havia de ter sido feita mas foi um bom desafio para começar o ano. Desta vez, optei por adaptar um guião oficial, de Marvel Adventures: The Avengers (vol.1) #14, por Jeff Parker (desenhado por Leonard Kirk), embora tenha trocado as personagens pelas suas versões em Marvel Now: Capitão América, Homem de Ferro, Hulk, Wolverine, Homem-Aranha e Capitã Marvel.A história é similar a um típico episódio da A-Team (trocadilho intencional!), com os Vingadores a terem de enfrentar uma horda de bárbaros e gigantes, com a povoação a ajudar no final. Divirtam-se!

Hope you all began 2015 in stride. For cartoonists, unfortunately, the year didn’t got off to a good start – let’s hope there’s still time for comics art form to help turn mentalities around. With that in mind, what better way to start 2015 then with a few snapshots of WiP from a new portfolio sample, featuring Marvel’s The Avengers?...

Espero que tenham começado 2015 em grande. Para cartunistas, o ano não começou da melhor forma – esperemos que haja ainda tempo para a BD ajudar a mudar mentalidades. Posto isto, que melhor forma de iniciar 2015 do que com fotos de WiP (Trabalho em Progresso) duma nova amostra, figurando Os Vingadores da Marvel?...

By now, everything that could be said about CCPT was said and shown – courtesy from the media and also from the fandom – and, fortunately, we’re closer to 2015’s Comic Con Portugal! Closing this chapter, here’s an illustration that I prepared for the show, as an exclusive print, but couldn’t finish in time – the final preparations lingered too long.

Given it focused on Natalie Dormer’s character Cressida, from The Hunger Games: Mockinjay part 1, and the movie’s recent premier at our cinemas, I’m sure it would have been sought after.

Por esta altura, tudo o que poderia ser dito sobre CCPT já foi dito e visto – por cortesia dos media e também dos fãs – e, felizmente, estamos mais perto da Comic Con Portugal de 2015! Fechando este capítulo, eis uma ilustração que quis preparar para o evento, como impressão exclusiva, mas não consegui terminar a tempo – os preparativos finais arrastaram-se. Dado ter focado na personagem Cressida, de Natalie Dormer em Os Jogos da Fome: A Revolta parte 1, e por o filme ter estreado recentemente nos nossos cinemas, tenho certeza que a imagem teria sido procurada.

Comic Con Portugal: Feedbacks

As the community generally shares its thoughts on what was great or needs improvement in CCPT, I was asked, along with a few colleagues, to give my opinion, both in the Bandas #36 radio broadcast, at Lisbon's Radio Zero station, by blogger Nuno Pereira Sousa (BandasDesenhadas), and in a mini-interview titled “Comic-Con Portugal: Authors and Retailers Feedback”, for journalist/blogger Pedro Cleto (As Leituras do Pedro). More recently, a mixed interview was also published in P3 section of O Público national newspaper, conducted by Sara Sampaio.

Building on the topic, here are some public videos that give an idea of the events’ fantastic atmosphere and attendance by the fans!

Enquanto a comunidade partilha as suas noções de como foi excelente o CCPT e do que precisa ser melhorado, fui convidado, junto com alguns colegas, a dar a minha opinião, tanto no programa de rádio Bandas #36, da estação lisboeta Rádio Zero, pelo blogger Nuno Pereira Sousa (BandasDesenhadas), e numa mini-entrevista intitulada “Comic-Con Portugal: Balanço dos Autores e Livreiros”, para o jornalista/blogger Pedro Cleto (As Leituras do Pedro). Mais recentemente, uma entrevista mista foi também editada pela secção P3 do jornal O Público, conduzida por Sara Sampaio.

Comic Con Portugal: Exclusive Prints / Impressões Exclusivas

As mentioned, I took a few selected high-quality prints (in 300gr thick matte boards, measuring 12,20x114,30 inches) of artwork of mine, to sell at my CCPT’s Artists Alley table. I’m happy to say it was an unexpected success, given the stock sold out, and I would probably have sold a few more copies if I had them available. I also sold some books and comic-books with my artwork, plus a wide Hellboy banner (229x355 inches) that I had printed to decorate the stand.

Some fans showed interest in getting a copy of these prints after the show, so I’ll be printing a small 2nd batch, depending on demands. This post serves as a reminder to those who asked for them, but it’s opened to anyone else – within the next few weeks – so please email me, if interested. The illos’ feature: Batman, Hellboy, X, Marvel/DC (Batman+Wolverine+Hulk+Superman), Daredevil and a Logan (aka Wolverine) isolated figure, taken from the previous composition.

Como mencionei antes, levei uma selecção de impressões de alta-qualidade (em grossas pranchas mate de 300gr, de formato 32x45cm) de trabalhos meus, para vender na mesa no Beco dos Artistas da CCPT. Fico feliz por poder dizer que foi um inesperado sucesso, dado ter esgotado o stock, e provavelmente teria vendido mais algumas cópias se as tivesse disponíveis. Também vendi alguns livros e comic-bookss com arte minha, mais um amplo póster (90cmX1,40m) com o Hellboy, com o qual decorei o stand.

Alguns fãs mostraram interesse em adquirir cópias destas impressões após o evento, pelo que irei imprimir uma pequena 2ª tiragem, conforme os pedidos. Este post serve para lembrar a quem o solicitou, mas está aberto a quem mais tiver interesse e me informar nas próximas semanas – pelo que contactem-me via e-mail, se interessados. As ‘ilos figuram: Batman, Hellboy, X, Batman+Wolverine+Hulk+Super-Homem, Demolidor e uma figura isolada de Logan (i.e., Wolverine), saído da anterior composição.
