On
a slow news week, I'm taking this DC Comics' Flash vignette's
WiP to fill up space, not that anyone has actually asked about my work process
(more recently, anyway...)
Working
from the basic layout that maped out the page, I often workout a
particular scene on the side, to figure the details and try to get
the most out of it; here, I sketched the panel and doodled the
figure separately, so as to better compose it later, on the lightbox.
Numa
semana sem notícias, preencho o vazio com o processo de trabalho
deste paínel com Flash da DC Comics, não que me tenham
perguntado sobre o meu método (pelo menos, mais recentemente...) Trabalhando
com base no layout que definiu a página, frequentemente desenvolvo
uma cena particular à parte, para decidir os detalhes e tentar tirar
o máximo dela; aqui, esbocei a vinheta e rabisquei a figura em
separado, para depois melhor a compôr, em mesa-de-luz.
I
wanted to tilt the angle, to convey that The Flash was running on the
walls rather than using the stairs, so I needed to make sure the
perspective was right – it took different grid planes and various
vanishing points. Don't forget your geometry, kids!
Quis
tombar o ângulo, para mostrar que o Flash está a correr nas paredes
em vez de usar as escadas, sendo importante acertar na perspectiva –
o que precisou de vários planos com grelhas e pontos de fuga. Não
descartem a geometria, míudos!
With
everything in place, it's time to “make the magic happen.” The
Flash was re-sketch on the page and further fleshed out with a 2mm
magenta graphite on a mechanical pencil, to keep the “gesture” as
much as possible, while the background I just drew directly from a
lightbox.
Com
tudo no sítio, é hora de “fazer a magia acontecer.” O Flash foi
re-esboçado na prancha e melhor definido com mina de 2mm magenta em
lapiseira, para manter o “gesto” tanto quanto possível, enquanto
que o fundo fi-lo directamente na mesa-de-luz.
It
may look like too much work for such a passing scene, but it's
preferable to drawing something wonky. A professional once told me
that “the most sucesseful works are the ones that cast a full
illusion,” which is way it's importante to care for even the small
details, that will make a big difference in the end result.
Pode parecer demasiado trabalho para uma cena passageira, mas é preferível a desenhar algo torto. Um profissional disse-me certa vez que “os trabalhos mais bem-sucedidos são os que projectam ilusões envolventes,” daí ser importante atentar até os pequenos detalhes, que farão uma grande diferença no resultado final.
